Okay, I know a lot of you don't really watch American Idol anymore. Most people stopped watching after the 4th season. I guess I'm back on the Idol train because one of my fellow cast mates is going to be on the show this season!!! Yaaayyy... The new season of American Idol kicks off on Wed. Jan. 19th!!! What's interesting to me about Idol is how it changes the life of the winner, right? WRONG! Back in the day it did, but now it seems that if you don't win the coveted 1st place spot you get more... Take this most recent idol news for instance.
Last season a young lady by the name of Crystal Bowersox was the runner-up on the show. The winnner was a guy named Lee DeWyze. Crystal is selling more albums than Lee! Wow! And she didn't win...
In the battle of the 'Idol' acts, Bowersox secured the week's best-selling album despite a 71% drop in sales. Her debut record, 'Farmer's Daughter' sold 11,000 copies pushing its total sales well past the 100,000 mark. Lee's album DeWyze sold only 6,000 copies. The name of his album is 'Live It Up.' Other former contestants from the reality singing competition maintained their places in the Top 200, with CARRIE UNDERWOOD selling 3,000 copies of her album 'Carnival Ride', and FANTASIA taking her total sales of album 'Back To Me' to 384,000 after selling 6,000.
It's amazing to me how album sales are not as high as they use to be for any artist. I know this has a lot to do with the numerous ways people can get music for free nowadays. Fantasia's album only has sold 384,000 to date. I remember a time when artist would sell that in one week. Not saying they can't b/c some artist still do, but that's a drop from what Fantasia has sold in the past. Well, just wanted to share this info. with you.
